Clean & Transfer 16mm Film to DVD

Telecine: Our digital 16mm film transfer to DVD process scans the actual surface of the 16mm film individually frame by frame through an enlarged gate directly to a hard-drive. It is the same equipment as used by the BBC and the Academy of Motion Pictures Film Archive. We use heat free LEDs for this process so there is no danger of damage to the original film and your film is not "played" in the old fashioned sense. This telecine technique helps correct under or over exposure of the original cine film, our equipment can also compensate for Red, Green & Blue (RGB) filters to maximise the quality of your images. We also employ digital software to convert the 18 or 24 frames per second of 16mm cine film to the 25 frames per second of PAL video or the 29.97 frames per second of NTSC. This gives a broadcast quality outcome to your home movies with NO strobing or image burn.

Film Cleaning

As an additional free service I also intensively clean every foot of 16mm film that goes through my system. Using the industry leading professional ECCO cleaning system with anti-static cleaning fluid which stops dust & lint attraction, cleans, conditions & lubricates the film, I also use editors lint free gloves whilst processing your film, so every frame is as clean as it can possibly be.

After all you want to "Save Those Memories" and not all the dust and dirt that is currently attached to them after years of storage. After this cleaning and transfer process your film is returned to you in pristine condition for further storage.

Super 16mm film with Sound

If the film was shot with a sound camera we can also provide your films back with their own original soundtrack. Around 5% of film sold was sound film, however if you were one of the lucky ones we can incorporate that sound onto your DVD. Running sound film costs £11 per 50ft. Firstly I capture the images then I capture the sound separately on a different machine and then carefully match it up to the captured images in my editing software, so you get the best of both worlds, frame-by frame state of the art images with your voices captured too.

If choosing the self-edit option I will provide the soundtrack as a separate .wav file on a CD-Rom so that you will have everything you need to create the perfect family film. Alternatively you can choose to have the final DVD with the Silver service where I will match the audio / video and provide the final playable DVD.

There is an initial set-up fee (minimum charge) of £30 but this will include your first 100ft of film. Beyond that first 100ft our capture prices are:

Authoring Service levels and charges

Self-Edit - £16 per hour of film
Your films are presented back to you as fully printed DVD-Roms with .mpg files for you to drag and drop into your own editing software if you wish to do a final edit yourself. The .mpgs are created at the maximum resolution of 8000kbps on maximum quality settings and can be presented as PAL or NTSC.

Bronze Level - £20 per hour of film
Your films are presented back to you as a fully printed DVD. Each Reel is presented as a separate title so you can play back your entire collection or pick which reel you wish to watch. DVDs can be presented as PAL or NTSC.

Silver level - £30 per hour of film
Your films are presented back to you as above but with an audio soundtrack. We only use classical music, which will not age your film. Experience has taught us which tracks to use for varying types of film subjects. For a small extra charge you can supply your own audio soundtrack* if you have specific tracks or artists in mind. We will convert your CD and edit it into your movie. DVDs can be presented as PAL or NTSC.

Gold Level - £100 per hour of film
Your films will be presented back as fully edited and authored DVDs. We will edit out any flares or blank footage so that the film is 'tight'. You can specify what type of material to keep. We usually suggest cutting down the scenery footage but keeping the people. If you choose to keep all the good footage we will just make sure that any glitches in the original film are cut out so your DVD is as perfect as possible.

This service is excellent for turning an hour of hum-drum mistake ridden footage into half an hour of enjoyable viewing. DVDs can be presented as PAL or NTSC.

Extra identical copies are available at £10 each for Bronze, Silver & Gold services.

DVD covers

We also design individual DVD case covers which will complement your printed DVD disc. Each cover will have 12 stills from your footage and details of the films on the DVDs. (Info such as family name, date of footage and locations etc.) Covers are £12 for the initial design and £4 for any further copies.

Soundtrack*

If you wish to include your own choice of music for the soundtrack there is a small extra charge of £2 per track used if you supply the music on CD or £3 per track if we have to supply the music from our extensive catalogue.

We also specialise in DVD family tree creation using a mixture of your old 16mm & 8mm movie footage, more modern footage and photos. So that every family member can be named with date of birth, death, marriage etc. And a bespoke family tree created to show family relationships and a photo appears for every member of your tree when they are clicked on. This is a highly individual service and needs to be priced on the complexity of your family and how far back you wish to go. After a quote has been given payment by cheque to SaveThoseMemories or by Paypal is acceptable.

We recommend that you use a minimum of Recorded Delivery to send us your films. We will return them by First Class recorded delivery. Price of return postage will depend on the amount of film being sent.
