1st October 2025
By Chris Squires

I first looked at going full Solar back in early 2020, but you can guess what happened then, a very uncertain world. So almost 6 years on I finally have my full Solar set up with battery storage and back-up. As you can imagine my computers and Scanbox 4K telecine machine are quite energy hungry particularly as my AI Optical Flow work on cine film requires a lot of GPU power with 24hr+ encodes being a regular thing now. I used a rather excellent company based in Southampton called Infinity Energy who took care of everything. I went with Sigenstor batteries as I thought they offered me more flexibility than other battery systems with their lego-like approach. I went with the Andersen 3 EV charger as being very artsy we could get it in a colour that exactly matched our front door! Our first Electric vehicle is coming in early November so we will be be 95% self-sufficient. So now everything from slide capture to editing videos and saving old cine film will be solar powered right down to the final trip to the Post Office. Here’s to a sunny 2026!
